Captain Stephanie Bowman joined the cadet program with the 2958 Army Cadets in 1988, becoming one of the first 12-year-olds to do so. At the time, the Corps was affiliated with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa but later became affiliated with the 763 Communications Regiment. Captain Bowman completed several courses as a cadet, including the Basic Army Cadet Course in 1989, Cadet Leader in 1990, Cadet Leader Instructor in 1991 and in her final summer a Staff Cadet Position with the Cadet Leader instructor course for Quartermasters.

In 1994, she was the first recipient of the corps to receive the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence. An award received in recognition for volunteerism in the community. Throughout her time as a cadet, she served in various roles, including Quartermaster Assistant and Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant Major, before eventually retiring as a Cadet Master Warrant Officer in 1995.

After retiring as a cadet, Captain Bowman remained with the corps as a civilian instructor, serving as the Supply Officer until 1998, when she enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces Cadet Instructor Cadre. She received her commission in 1999 and was promptly promoted to Second Lieutenant, continuing her role as Supply Officer. In 2000, she transferred to the Supplementary Holding Reserve to pursue her academic studies in English and Mathematics in California and Colorado. She completed her studies in 2003 and returned to Canada, where she studied at Algonquin College and completed various office administration programs focussing on Executive and Legal Office Administration.

In 2006, Bowman re-enrolled in the Cadet Instructor Cadre and worked with the 2958 Army Cadets until June 2009, when she transferred to 2317 Army Cadets to further develop her skills as an officer. She held various positions, including Administration Officer and Training Officer, before being promoted to Captain in January 2015. She completed her role as Training Officer in 2016 and remained with 2317 until June 2017, when she returned to 2958. In June 2023, she was appointed as Commanding Officer.

In addition to her work with the cadets, Capt Bowman has held various administrative positions throughout Ottawa. Joined the Public Service of Canada in 2009 and worked for the Judge Advocate General’s office. In 2011, she was promoted and worked for the Directorate of Canadian Armed Forces Pension Services at the Department of National Defence until 2016. Since January 2022, she is currently employed as an Acting Client Experience Coach at the Pension Centre at Public Service and Procurement Canada. Captain Bowman is married and enjoys spending time with her family including her two cats and travelling with her husband when she is not working with the cadets.
